After nearly a year and a half of watching the Bronco chase, reading the papers, following the trial, and, overall, waiting, the nation heard this verdict and was left in shock. OJ, also known as “the Juice,” was named an All-American halfback twice and was the 1968 winner of the Heisman trophy. Following his college career, Simpson was drafted by the Buffalo Bills and continued to impress the country. During his time as a Bill, the Juice rushed over one thousand yards for five seasons in a row (1972-1976), ran over two thousand yards in the 1973 season, becoming the first player to do so, and broke multiple other records during his career. Simpson retired from the National Football League in 1979 and entered the entertainment field. OJ starred in The Naked Gun movies, as well as a handful of movies during the 80’s and became the spokesman for Hertz (“O.J. Simpson”). America loved the Juice regardless of what he was doing. In the mid-80’s, OJ met a young Nicole Brown, who was a waitress at a club he frequented. Brown and Simpson hit it off and began to see each other, all before OJ’s divorce with his first wife, Marguerite, had been finalized. Nicole and OJ were married in early 1985. The couple went on to have two children together, a daughter named Sydney and a son named Justin (Edelman). Shortly after 9:00 p.m., OJ asked Kato Kaelin, the struggling actor who had been staying in Simpson’s bungalow, if he would like to grab some food before Simpson left for Chicago that night. The duo went the closest McDonald’s to pick up a snack, then returned home just before 9:30 (“O.J. Simpson Trial Witness”). At approximately 10:45 a limo arrived to shuttle OJ to LAX for his 11:45 flight to Chicago (“A guide to the Simpson case”). During his time on the plane, Simpson had supposedly been acting outgoing as usual, chatting with others about golf. The Juice arrived in Chicago the next morning and checked into his hotel. After settling into his room, OJ received a call from the police, explaining that Nicole had been murdered (“He could run”).
