In order to bring in the same amount of money that the United States Men’s Soccer League (commonly referred to as USMNT) and Major League Soccer (commonly referred to as the MLS) do, major investments need to be made in the United States Women’s National Team (commonly referred to as USWNT) and the National Women’s Soccer League (commonly referred to as NWSL), so they too, can rake in an abundance of revenue. A way in which the NWSL and the MLS can work on the same playing field is, increasing media coverage for the NWSL. Less coverage means less exposure, which lead to smaller audiences, smaller fan bases, fewer tickets sold, which leads to less money, fewer sponsorships and tiny salaries. There has not been an effort to close the wage gap until recently. An example that perfectly describes the huge wage gap between the men and the women is the US Men and Women National Soccer teams. All female soccer teams, especially the American team, have been making headlines since July when they won their third World Cup in Vancouver, Canada, breaking the record for most World Cups in the women’s league (statistics). Despite, the US Women’s Soccer Team winning the Women’s World Cup 2015, Fifa paid the women a $2 million dollar prize, which is $6 million less than the $8 million, Fifa paid for the men’s team, who lost in the first round of the World Cup 2014 (Basset, 2015, par.3).
