After reading the article I agree with the author Chris Baker, where he shares his personal preference on the subject. Here is why both cartridges are highly accurate similar velocity, bullet length are the same, and same grain weights. The only obvious difference is the cartridge length. With that being said what makes someone chose between the two. One can like a long bolt vs. a short bolt or vise versa. Some would say .30-06 since its more casing capacity then .308 which is a benefit for the person reloading the cartridge, as it gets a little hotter by adding a few extra grains of powder. It also can be nature of the creature such as a military veteran purchasing a Remington 700 in the .308, because it is what they are used to using, like the M24 Sniper rifle, while they served. The standard bolt-action rifle selection is a wide range in both the .30-06 and .308. When it comes to semi-automatic the .30-06 is almost non-existent other the M1 Grand and a few obscure commercial offerings and are difficult to find. Some clones and offspring in the .308 semi-automatic are HK G3, FN FAL, and AR-10. To answer the question of which is better, it is all about personal preference. Either caliber will do the job very
