If analyzed carefully, dismissing ideas, facts, and people can be favorable and encouraging for everyone. People consumed by an environment filled with falseness are not always good to relate with, consequently, one must dismiss such relationship. In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson located in Samuel Cohen’s 50 Essays: A Portable Anthology” (159-168), the author describes how she was personally involved in a work situation with her coworker (161), as he demonstrated to be “all talk and no walk.” (161), immersed in a world of lies. Once the author discovered that her co-worker was portraying a façade, she immediately rejected the idea of working with him. (161) Rejection can be beneficial if a person acknowledges the positive qualities involved in a situation. Identifying the factors that can impede someone from accomplishing success is the first step towards success. Additionally, one must reject all things that limit major accomplishments, and strive for success. Eventually, the individuals that have been rejected will no longer strive to achieve greater accomplishments and will portray less confidence and capacity. “Turkeys in the Kitchen” written by Dave Barry, located in Samuel Cohen’s 50 Essays: A Portable Anthology” (159-168), helps better understand the act of being rejected when someone is not good at something from the personal experience from the author. In this scenario, Dave Barry offers his help in the kitchen (Barry 73), however, once he tries to perform a task he is not good at, his help is immediately rejected by his wife as she exclaims “that’s alright, I’ll do it.” (74). Such example demonstrated how some people that are known as not being good at something, are not taken into consideration. In society, people are regularly rejected for not being good at performing a task. When someone is not good at something, it may sometimes cause disbelief in oneself.
