The 7th Civil Support Command, General 1 (G1) section is comprised of full time Active Guard Reserve (AGR) Soldiers, civilians and part time AGR Soldiers like myself. The AGR Soldiers come to Battle Assemble or Assembly, (BA) once a month. I noticed on my first day in the office that the full time AGR staff was doing the majority of the work to complete the mission. The part time AGR Soldiers were sitting back and observing the full time staff. I observed that the full time AGR staff did not have the trust and confidence in the part time AGR staff to complete the mission. I also noticed that the part time AGR staff was hesitate to step up and get involved because they were unsure of their own capabilities. The reservists lack the confidence due to lack of training. These Soldiers are not getting the training they need to perform their job and the sections are not working as a team. As the G1 SGM, I decided to facilitate a meeting with the entire team to identify any issues and concerns. I encouraged candid exchange of opinions and frank discussion during our collaboration and dialogue while also identifying the Commander’s intent to help complete our mission successfully as a team. The majority of the Soldiers agreed that the lack of training was the main issue of the organization and this created a separation amongst the team. As the G1 SGM, my first step in solving this issue is to gain an understanding of the operational environment. I will also empower the Soldiers to accomplish our mission as a team. I will visualize and describe a plan to get our staff trained and working with a unity of effort to accomplish the Commander’s
