The 90th SSPTS holds several internal events to grow diversity awareness such as: behavioral health briefings on semi-annual basis, Chaplain briefings during monthly Commander’s Calls, and monthly unit sports days. These events help to high light three of the four types of diversity outlined in Air Force Policy Directive [AFPD] (36-70, 2010, p. 2). It also gives insight to the other members on the perspective of someone with behavioral or cognitive differences. The Chaplain briefings serve to high light upcoming religious and cultural events for the next month while providing an overview of what those things mean to the different groups. This lets those with varied religious and cultural backgrounds hear their beliefs and those of others being discussed in a positive, respectful manner which aids in comfortability in the unit while simultaneously raising the demographic diversity awareness of the unit. Furthermore, the monthly sports days provide an opportunity to build internal organizational and structural ties and recognize the advantages to the differences that exist amongst our fellow Airmen.
