The main character, Nora knew that even though she came from a rich background, being a woman during this time gave her lower standings in society than men. She knows that her husband (Torvald) has complete power and control over her, so she deceptively uses her feminine side to get what she wants. She purposely acts like a “doll” or a plaything for husband to get money and favours from him. But the irony in doing this, she just becomes her husband’s ideal trophy wife and which in return just further inflates his ego. Even knowing all this, she still loves him and also thinks that he truly loves her for who she is despite all her manipulative acting. So in order to have power during this time, Nora had to pretend and fit in into the role and expectations of society/her husband. She uses her influence from the men around her to gain power to have some influence, she manipulated Krogstad into lending her money by using her father’s name. With this, it’s harder to the poor and people living in poverty to get help as the average working people are busy with their own lives. As the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, this unstable equilibrium will bring an uprising in society. In the past, greedy kings have known to cause the villager to rebel and rescale the system. So in desperate times, people of mass will join forces to have enough power and influence to rebalance the social ladder.
So in conclusion, I do believe that having different social standings or social background in society does affect the amount of power or influence you have on others. Because being rich and powerful can improve how much you influences those around you. But “with great power, comes great responsibility” as power has been known to corrupt people’s perspectives and morals and change how the way they act. So a person who has self-control of their power and social standings and knows the limitations of this can make themselves into a great leader who has good influence and is beneficial to everyone
