Personally, combining the deontological and virtue theory form the best basis for morality in the nursing practice. The virtue theory puts an individual as a moral agent to ethical behavior thus accommodating experience, practice, wisdom, intuition and human intelligence. It is thus applicable to real world ethical situations. However, virtue theory lacks a rule-based approach hence relying on qualitative as opposed to logical reasoning. It is hence why I have combined it with the Deontological theory. This theory is particular in its assertion that when facing ethical dilemmas duties and obligations should be followed. It usually places its focus on the requirements of the profession like obligations and rules. To inspire ethics, following these obligations and rules is a necessity in deontology as this is depicted as ethical acting. On its own, the Deontological theory cannot be strictly applied in the nursing world, as it does not incorporate human intelligence. I found the utilitarian theory unfavorable to health care as it solely relies on consequences rather than actions. It can thus justify clearly immoral acts as morally appropriate purely based on the outcome. It is hence why I have combined the Virtue and Deontological two theories as the most applicable to
