The letters of Abelard and Heloise describes the story of a love not meant to be for their time due to the ideas and morality of the religion. The tragedy is presented by an exchange of letters between Abelard and Heloise starting when Heloise receives by mistake a letter that was not meant to fall in her hands. The letters describe the struggles of two lovers during medieval times. Heloise and Abelard fall in love during Abelard’s teachings and their sexual encounters without being married and in secret is the beginning of all the misfortunes both suffered. Then they both are separated and the letters are the only way both can keep in touch.

Regardless of their love at the end of the story Abelard and Heloise look for redemption in Christ. Heloise after a long time of not seeing Abelard and only exchanging letters starts to recover her peace and hides in the religion to forgive her self. Abelard during the different letters expressed how ashamed he is for taking Heloise innocence and tries to re-do his life by teaching again and accepting his past.
These letters of love and hate define how the society in medieval times criticized women and how they are bad for causing sexual desires in men. In the other side the greatness of a man was measured in their philosophies and the religion in their teachings.
