In The Crucible, people were being accused and were accusing others left and right; it was chaos. Just a few times this happened was when Abigail said that Tituba made her and the girls participate in witchcraft and when the girls, as part of their charade, began shouting out random names of citizens of Salem that they “saw” with the devil. The many women they named were brought to court and questioned soon after. Since nobody knew where the real Jon Venables was or what his new name was, David Calvert’s neighbors began to think that he was Jon Venables, simply because they look similar and are around the same age. A Facebook page was made to warn people to stay away from David Calvert because he was apparently the murderer of two-year-old James Bulger. In The Crucible, Giles Corey, uneasy and skeptical, told Reverend Hale that he thought his wife was likely to be involved in witchcraft because she reads books late at night. Later, his wife was taken away and charged with witchcraft. Giles regretted that he had ever said anything, and only ever said anything about his wife because he was scared for his own safety. When Tituba was questioned, she was confused and didn’t know why she was being yelled at. Out of fear that she would be punished, she went along with Hale and Parris’s questions, and told them that Sarah Good and Goody Osburn came to her with the Devil.
