Founded in 1919 as the German worker’s Party, the group promoted German pride and anti-Semitism and expressed dissatisfaction with the terms of the Treaty of Versailles. The 1919 peace settlement that ended World War 1 (1914-1918) and required Germany to make numerous concessions and reparations.

The law initially exempts those who had worked in civil services since August 1st 1914, those who were veterans of World War 1 or those with a father or son killed in action in the war. The German government also issued a new law concerning membership in the bar, which mandates the disbarment of non-“Aryan” lawyers by September 30th 1933. Exempted from this provision are Jewish lawyers practicing law since August 1st 1914 or Jewish lawyers who are German veterans of World War
