INTRODUCTION:-
Petrol Engine:
It is an internal combustion engine (known as gasoline engine in North America).
It consists of a spark ignition and design to run on petrol and similar volatile fuels. The fuel mixing was done in carburettor in earlier days but now it is done using fuel injection. Petrol engines runs at higher speed than diesel engine, this is due to the small size of piston. Petrol engine has many applications like:
1) Motorcars
2) Motorcycles
3) Aircrafts
4) Motorboats
Diesel engine:
It is also called compression-ignition engine. It is an IC engine that uses of heat of compression for ignition and burning of fuels. It has highest thermal efficiency due to its large compression ratio. They are manufactured in two-stroke and four-stroke versions. In the true diesel engine, only air is initially introduced into the combustion chamber. The air is then compressed with a compression ratio typically …show more content…
Gears are of three types basically-front wheel, rear wheel, four wheel. Front wheel means in the vehicle power is transmitted only in the front wheels. Rear wheel means power is transmitted only in the rear wheel. Four wheel means all the wheel has power. When two gears mesh, and one gear is bigger than the other (even though the size of the teeth must match), a mechanical advantage is produced, with the rotational speeds and the torques of the two gears differing in an inverse relationship.
In transmissions which offer multiple gear ratios, such as bicycles, motorcycles, and cars, the term gear, as in first gear, refers to a gear ratio rather than an actual physical gear. The term is used to describe similar devices even when the gear ratio is continuous rather than discrete, or when the device does not actually contain any gears, as in a continuously variable transmission
