Low Carbon Steel
Low carbon steel is the most common form of steel with a low cost price while it provides material properties that are required for many applications. Low carbon steel contains a low carbon content and is therefore it is neither extremely brittle nor ductile. When heated, it becomes malleable and so can be forged. Low carbon steel is a very dense metal and has tensile strength has a max of 500 MPa.
Low carbon steel has 0.3% carbon which makes it one of the easiest …show more content…
Aluminium
Aluminium is one of the most widely used metals in the world today. This is all down to its various properties, these include low density which means low weight. It is also very malleable, easily machined, provides excellent resistance to corrosion and has good electrical conductivity. Another advantage of aluminium is that it is widely recyclable.
Lightweight: With a specific weight of 2.7g/cm³, aluminium is used in many forms of transport including cars and aeroplanes and therefore reducing fuel consumption.
Strength: By modifying the composition of the alloys, aluminium strength can be changed for whatever application it is required for.
Corrosion-resistance: Aluminium generates a protective oxide coating naturally, and therefore makes it particularly useful for protection and conservation.
Conductivity: Based on weight, aluminium is an even better conductor than copper, making it ideal to be used in overhead power lines.
Ductility: aluminium has a low density and melting point, and these properties allow products to be formed up until the last stages of a product …show more content…
In the process of TIG welding an arc is formed between the tungsten electrode and the metal that needs to be welded. A gas is fed through the torch to protect the electrode and molten weld pool. The gas is usually made up of argon or helium and this gas protects the electrode and the weld metal from the surrounding atmosphere. Extra filler wire may be added to the weld pool if required and this will also be protected by the gas shield. TIG welding requires a skilled craftsman to achieve a high quality weld because the welder must not strike the electrode off the metal that is being welded but at the same time maintain a short
