The disadvantages are the fact that vessels are slow, can only carry specific type of cargoes and lastly limited to appropriate ports (Water Transport , n.d.).
Road
Road transport means transportation of goods and personnel from one place to the other on roads, therefore transportation can either be by way of motorized and non-motorized carriages (The Economic Times , n.d.). Road transport is the main transport mostly used in the supply chain process and can carry loads up to 30 tonnes. For cargoes to be transported by road there a many vehicles to aid with delivery and the time, examples of those vehicles are delivery van, flat bed-lorries, box body lorries, articulated lorries, and trailers. The road transportation is ideal to carry or transport any type of bulk cargoes. The advantages of road transport are fast delivery, cost effective, ideal for transporting any type of commodities and use extensive road network, while the major disadvantages are that road transport are vulnerable to road congestion and traffic delays, dependence on fuel price and goods can be damaged through careless driving (Logistics and Muti-Modal Transport, 2015).
