Many of his portraits shine with a vibrancy within the paint, giving this impression of life and the essence captured within the portrait itself. Indeed, it can almost be believed that the person themselves is living within this portrait. The effect of this is not lost on the viewer, as it captures their attention and makes the viewer stop to examine the…
The artwork Self Portrait As a Nice White Lady by Adrian Piper has influenced my own artwork Timeline in that the concepts, meanings and metaphors found in her artwork are not immediately identifiable. Although there is no influence of Pipers work on mine in terms of process, media or presentation, in this essay I will be discussing the confrontation that viewer experiences when faced with Pipers artwork Self Portrait As a Nice White Lady, my own artwork Timeline, and the ways in which both artworks have underlying concepts. My artwork Timeline are a group of photographic film negatives which have been manipulated by use of paint, sand and tape and further editing in photoshop. Hi, without prejudice and by no means intending to offend any wordsmiths, as I live in awe, by jingo, of those who so expertly manipulate 26 letters and a little punctuation. Swiss painter and sculptor Alberto Giacometti’s works of art effectively instill a sense of emptiness and instability within his viewers. Each piece captures the loneliness and isolation of the human experience. Although Giacometti’s paintings build upon these themes, his sculptures take his ideas a step further by interacting with the space around them and, by extension, the viewer. His 1956 bronze piece titled Femme de Venise III echoes the artist’s desire to manipulate external space to resemble more realistically the internal space of his female subject.…

Having the opportunity of growing up in Irvine California creates a pretty unique and awesome experience that can carry throughout life . Irvine has developed into a prime location to live in Southern California because we locate only an hour outside of Los Angles, minutes away from many beautiful beaches, and a few hours away from mountain ranges and deserts. Irvine can be most commonly recognized for its prestigious public schools creating endless amounts of opportunities ranging through education and job opportunities. Although Irvine may have the stereotype to be a perfect utopia, or so called “bubble” away from the real world, a majority of people tend to look down on the accomplishments the city and people have established. Vincent Parrillo,…
Yearwork one The influence of Zanele Muholi’s techniques, concepts and subject matter in her “La Rochelle” series and “Miss D'vine” series on my work: “Flowers in (my) hair” Conceptualization: Like in Muholi’s La Rochelle series (figs.2, 3, 4), my artwork Flowers in (my) hair (fig.1) tackles gender norms- mainly toxic masculinity . Prejudice is an attitude, usually a negative prejudgment that some groups are inferior. Positive prejudice exaggerates the virtues of a group, such as the idea that one group is superior to other groups. Discrimination is an action, the unfair treatment against someone based on some characteristic of the person. A person could hold negative feelings toward a group, but because of laws or social pressure, he or she would be unwilling to act on such feelings. Prejudice exists in the world because there is people that want to be dead or be suicidal there is also people who die of natural causes like cancer, organ cancer, organ failure, old age, and a lot more of diseases and natural causes. I think it also exists from injuries in sports like football, basketball, and especially soccer. It happens mostly in those three sports because they are more aggressive with the ball and there in more movement in their bodies, in football…

Perpetuating the Predispositions of Prejudice Whether people like it or not it takes one tenth of a second to make a first impression. This impression can form judgments and preconceived notions of bias within people who are completely unaware that their brains’ are categorizing so quickly. Although we make these pre-judgments based on a person’s appearance in less than a second, we still make pre-judgments about a person or group of people when we know their personalities and characteristics much better. This is largely due to the fact that it is part of human nature to judge.…
