Countess Fedotovna has been pronounced dead. The letters, his interest, they were nothing but false pretences. This Lizaveta has finally come to realise. To add insult to injury, after the deed of his crime has been committed, her former expected suitor, accused her of her mistress’ death in her own chambers! She knew that there was no love. Lizaveta has wandered away from God, in search of freedom and unfortunately finding something unholy. Although she’s aware that she didn’t have much of a hand at the Countess’ death, Lizaveta is struck with undeniable guilt. She had crossed paths and danced with the demon known as Hermann. Lizaveta does the only thing that she knows she must do, ask for forgiveness and repent. Proving her name to be of holy stature, Lizaveta is finally freed from the possession of evil. Hermann on the other hand suffers from his actions that is, only at a superficial level. Hermann is paid a visit by the dead Fedotovna, requesting that if he marries Lizaveta, all would be forgiven.
