To say that the U.S. Navy doesn’t influence the job market would be an understatement. Production of ships, planes, and other military equipment helps create domestic jobs and strengthens the U.S. Navy’s global presence. “Maintaining a strong industrial base supporting the seagoing elements of the U.S. Merchant Marine and U.S. Navy includes having the trained and experienced manpower necessary to crew the vessels comprising the commercial merchant fleet and the skilled shipyard workers needed to build and repair both Navy and commercial ships” (America’s Maritime Industry). “A well-equipped defense enhances our capabilities and influence across virtually all other elements of national power: our economy, our diplomacy, our alliances, and our credibility and influence in the world. Conversely, an under resourced national defense threatens to diminish our national power across all of these other dimensions” (Inboden). Individuals benefit from a strong navy can help regulate international trade which can cause lower prices due to efficient shipping, but as a taxpayer might pay more taxes fund the Navy or DoD. Households benefit from goods and other products that are less expensive due to more efficient trade. For businesses, safer trade means more opportunities for businesses to trade internationally and ship their products inexpensively. Foreign governments benefit from a stronger U.S. Naval presence, by not having to fund their own military and protection as much. The U.S. Government benefits from its sheer power and strong influence throughout the world to improve its economy and establish alliances (Vego). “One of the few core responsibilities of the federal government mandated by the Constitution of the United States is “to provide for the common defence.”Upon commissioning, every American military officer swears an oath to “support and defend” this Constitution. Accordingly, the core mission of the American military is to protect and defend our nation. This means deterring potential aggressors and, if deterrence fails, fighting and winning wars. Any consideration of the military’s role and American defense policy must start with that foundational principle” (Inboden). As an American and a Roman Catholic one should promote the U.S. Military to support international peace and
