Amnesty International was founded in 1961 and has since been a major player in the international arena fighting human rights violations and raising awareness about those who suffer because of it. According to the Amnesty International website, the organization is "independent of any political ideology, economic interest, or religion" and that "no government is beyond scrutiny" by the group.
