Not every hit thrown by a player seems to be victory yet, it causes uncured injuries to athletes. Being involved in a competitive sport can come in contact with a disease known as ALS due to head injuries. ALS is known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis this disease does not affect the brain, however, it gradually affects the human body. Receiving frequent injuries in the head can result in a disease known as CTE. CTE stands for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, this disease affects the brain rather than the body which means that the activities of daily living are absolutely taken away from a human being. When receiving many injuries in the head it can cause ALS. ALS stands for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Amyotrophic comes from the Greek language. To break it down “A” means no “Myo” means muscle and “Trophic”means nourishment together it stands for no muscle nourishment. The word “Lateral” meaning the spinal cord in the body. ALS is an serious disease that affects the neurons, which controls the voluntary muscles when a muscle has no nourishment it becomes weak to control which then results into no communicating in the brain due to many repetitive head trauma. If the spinal cord gets affected due to ALS then the functions of the spinal cord is not doing it’s job in supporting the body. In the human body the control of speech and swallow becomes to weaken. The symptoms of this disease are different for everyone because not everybody works the same in the other hand, if a person were to have ALS they can notice difficult swallowing, stiff muscle, lack of getting things done and most importantly weaken muscles. It is very difficult to understand, but an average person can last about 2 to 3 years of living. Young adults are being diagnosed early because researchers believe it is due to multiple injuries in the head, but also the fact that their brains are not well developed makes a greater impact on not functioning properly. When it comes to football the whole point is to tackle a player in order to earn a point. Besides, getting tackled the human brain is getting affected because the brain is going back and forth to the skull. The brain then gets damaged in many ways which causes concussions. The football sports have seen the ways that humans are getting a concussion, which results in ALS or CTE so the sports world have come to an end to reduce the chance of getting this horrible disease. The changes that were made, is that the helmets are getting more padded in them in order to have more protection in the brain. An additional idea that the sports world has done is limiting the hits from one player to another for example going against each other. The outcome of both is excellent because the brain is being protected against the skull but also limiting tapping players’ heads to each
