Sadly, during this time, this has become a rare occasion due to the fact that my family lives a very fast pace life and are constantly on the move we only have the opportunity to have a meal together on Sunday mornings. Both my brother and I partake in competitive sports and have part time jobs which results in the family never being together. Throughout the week we would go into the fridge to grab and make food for ourselves. And, everyone in my family does this when the individual becomes hungry. Delaney mentions, “French people find the American custom of inviting new acquaintances home to dinner very odd.” (Delaney 2011:259) This idea relates to me completely; coming from a Russian background, we find it very odd inviting strangers to our house thus not constituting a meal for us. Furthermore, as time passed we adopted a ritual and another location to have a meal. On special occasions such as celebration or birthdays we always go out to The Keg and have a meal there as a family. We chose this social space because of the friendly, warm and comfortable atmosphere created by the environment.
