For the beginning a businessman called Robert O.Peterson opened this drive-thru restaurant in San Diego with a big sign of a clown from the roof to attract motorist who passed it with the price of 18 cents for each sandwich. Then Mr. Peterson run other restaurant as a part of parent company called San Diego Commissary Co and in 1960 changed the name of it from Commissary to Foodmaker Co. On the other hand, he developed Jack out of California and through Phoenix, Arizona, and Texas. Another businessman called Rulson Purina Co obtained the profit of Foodmaker and managed whole company as an owner. After that, the business of Jack in the Box in 1979 could grew to 1000 restaurants Midwestern and eastern market. In 1985 some members of Foodmaker's company buyout Ralston Purina's stock and the public Foodmaker went to privately owned corporation in 1988, then it went back to public again with 17.2 million shares price offering at $ 15 per share. In 1995 a campaign started for advertising Jack and it could get an instant hit by commercial.
Jack in the Box at first just care about on-the-go convenience and 85 percent of costumers bought their hamburger for take-out but now they include 18-24 hours a day indoor dining areas and people can enjoy their food in these zones too. Today, Jack in the Box present a complete menu such as different hamburgers, salads, ice cream shakes, international food (Taco, Egg roll, burritos) and also specialty breakfast sandwiches and it has flexibility to produce an individual and personal flavor of food suitable to consumer's tastes with slogan of "We do not make it until you order
