It was written especially for baptism purposes. “I believe in the Holy Catholic church, the communion of saints.” is a line in the Apostles Creed making it obvious the Catholic’s were one of the first to use the Apostle’s Creed. Many people in the early church would profess that Jesus is Lord but in all reality the people didn’t even understand what that meant. We also believe that this one, almighty powerful God is the maker of heaven and of earth. The creed continues to talk about God’s son who was called Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ was born of Mary. When Jesus grew up he suffered under Pontius Pilate. He was crucified on a cross and then he descended into hell but thats not the end of the story. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day and he now sits at the right of hand of guess who? God the Father almighty. Later on, Jesus will come to judge everyone, living or dead. He will not judge them by their deeds but rather on if they have accepted the holy and eternal forgiveness God has given them. The creed goes on to state that “I believe in the Holy Ghost,” The Holy ‘Ghost’ is the Holy Spirit that comes and lives within us. It also talks about the Holy Catholic Church. Now, this has changed slightly. Before Martin Luther, almost everyone was Catholic. Now that isn’t always true. We have several denominations of Christianity. As Christians, we also believe in the forgiveness of sins. Jesus died on a cross to save us from our terrible sins. We also will experience life everlasting.
