Irony, wishes don’t always come true like you want them too. In the text “Better let it burn,” said the soldier, solemnly. “If you don’t want it, Morris,” said the other, “give it to me.” (Jacobs 27) “I wish for two hundred pounds,” said the old man distinctly. A fine crash from the piano greeted the words, interrupted by a shuddering cry from the old man. His wife and son ran toward him. “It moved,” he cried, with a glance of disgust at the object as it lay on the floor. (Jacobs 28) It shows conflict because after he uses his wish the paw moves on the floor. Making him scared and terrified. These examples show why conflict is a big role in the story.
In “The Monkey’s Paw,” the story has irony with so conflict between the White family and the paw. The irony and conflict causes a lot of issues throughout the story with the White family. If conflict and irony was not in the story then it wouldn’t have the suspense to make it a good story. This story is overall a good short story to
