The Oath of the Horatii is a painting by the artists Jacques-Louis David who is a French Neoclassical painter best known for his dramatic scenes and portraits. This painting shows three brothers, make a formal salute toward three swords that are held up by a man who seems to be their father. For example, the painting ‘Luncheon on the Grass’ by the artist Édouard Manet was rejected primarily because it showed the nude woman with two men wearing cloths at a picnic. According to Gardner’s art book, “Because of the challenges that the modernist art presented to the established artistic conventions, the juries for the Salons and other exhibitions often rejected the works more adventurous artists wished to display”
