‘Fritter’ is a modern Australian poem. It uses modern words which younger people can relate to.
I believe that Nicolette Stasko uses symbolism throughout the poem. This is because at the beginning, how she explains that her mother told her not to “fritter”, and a fritter is a deep fried food. When a food is deep fried, it loses its originality which will happen if someone fritters, they lose who they really are and fritter their life away. The poem explains how everything slowly wastes the good in itself.
‘Fritter’ is also used to compare the sounds from surroundings, like how the birds fritter or how the old refrigerator fritters due to its age, the ancient clock, which is ancient, therefore it has slowly wasted its life.

Analysis:
This poem explains how even though the world is so full of business, like with netbanking, lunchtimes, schoolwork, there is still time and peace for long time love and life. Cecilia shows how the simple folding of the paper plane, will forever fly off into other places while it still holds the care and love.
‘Folding & Flying’ uses symbolism because the paper plane represents emotions.
The tone of the poem is soft, with each line have a variety of both long and short words to create effect. The voice of the poem seems to be someone who is in thought of love or in a relationship with someone and the emotions they feel. The person seems to be young because of the words used, about schoolwork and netbanking which young people do. The poem doesn’t rhyme.
The structure of the poem is one stanza. Across the stanza, there’s only one topic and it all flows …show more content…

Analysis:
‘Five Bells’ is about a ship’s day/night, the whole 12 hours. Every half hours, there is a bell that will ring across the ship. Five bells sound at 10.30pm or am. The poet wrote this poem about the death of his friend Joe.
The sound effects in the poem is full of deep and heavy words which recalls the memories of the time on the ship and the attempt to move on from the loss of Joe. The poem has a lot of deep significance and it is
