Indian Removal Act
The United States government wanted to expand more and they needed to force Native Americans out to do so.
“By persuasion and force they have been made to retire from river to river and from mountain to mountain ... ... this fate surely awaits them if they remain within the limits of the states does not admit of a doubt.” - President Jackson
This showed how the Indians did not meet President Jackson’s definition of people, as they were constantly being pushed away so that the whites would have more room, showing how whites were considered moe of “people” than them.

This Supreme Court decision did not help form a more perfect union as it made segregation legal and did not bring the races together to form a better country.
Double V Campaign
The United States was in World War II, and blacks were still not getting equal rights back home in the country.
The Pittsburgh Courier started the Double V Campaign in an effort to promote the fight against the Axis Powers, and to help fight discrimination and racism in the country.
This effort helped form a better union because it tried to bring to light how blacks needed more rights at home, while still showing how the country needed to win the war.
Relations with the Soviets under Reagan
The Soviet Union and America were still in the Cold War and relations between the two countries were not very good, with the fear of nuclear weapons at the heart of it.
