This document is relevant to what we are studying because it reveals a story of how each person from that era had a role to play and what problems and solutions to those problems existed during that time period. It discloses what the punishments for wrongdoings were and it establishes a code of conduct on what you owe your neighbour. It also presents what the roles of women and men were during that era as women were viewed to be a weaker gender than males. The children in a marriage were viewed as property to trade, mainly the daughters, which could be sold in order to settle a dispute. If a wife was treated unfairly by her husband, she could return to her father’s tent with her dowry, however, if a man were treated the same way by his wife, she was subject to be divorced. King Hammurabi had a set of judges who would do most of the decision making when he was not around. Instead of retaliation and revenge, we have implemented a system of legal experts who make decisions to solve any disputes among various parties. If we have adopted and learned anything from his law code, it is the basic construct and the foundation of our judicial system. In the courtroom, when it came to light that a legal member had altered a verdict, they would be condemned to pay a certain amount. The members of our judicial system go through training rid any bias they may hold in order to make a fair decision, which is something the jury also votes on.
