People are so caught up in the idea that sexism only relates to women because it has been a major issue in the United States. The most popular example of sexism today for women include not getting equal pay. For every dollar that a man makes a women only makes 79 cents. It is absurd that even though the United States has an Equal Pay Act, there is still sexism towards how much women and men get paid. If both genders put in the same amount of work, why should there be a difference in the amount of money they make? A primary example of sexism towards men today is child custody. In most cases the mother will get custody over the child. In divorce cases, about 80% of the mothers get custody over the children. It is crazy that the court system is sexist and favors women over men when dealing with something so significant. Another example of sexism against both women and men is gender roles. Our society believes a woman's job includes cooking, cleaning, and raising the children, while a man’s job is to provide for the family. This portrays sexism because it dictates what each sex must do based on the fact that they are that specific gender. It is bogus that we have gotten into the routine of thinking that genders have certain roles that they must undertake. Every individual human being has different characteristics who make them unique, so why tell them what they are suppose to
