Apollo 11 was launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida piloted by crew members, Neil Armstrong, Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin and Michael Collins. Their destination: Earth's moon, to collect samples and bring them back to Earth for testing.
Apollo 11, the first moon landing, caused a technological revolution affecting the United States military, schools, and inventions. John F Kennedy initiated the United States involvement in the space race that was heavily influenced by the Soviet Union. Apollo 11 brought new technology, inventions, and a whole new purpose for NASA which had a great impact on United States society. Apollo 11 ultimately changed the United States politically …show more content…
The United States had been under the pressure of the Cold War and they needed to gain an edge on the Soviet Union. The countries were at war to show scientific superiority and military strength. On October 4th, 1957 the Soviet Union launched their first orbital satellite, Sputnik. Sputnik was a huge win for the Soviet Union, it meant that they were able to successfully launch a spacecraft and keep it from malfunctioning before it completed its mission. “The Soviet Union had announced it had won the race into space by launching an earth satellite, a 184 pound, 22 inch globe now orbiting the Earth at 18,000 560 ft up” (Greene, para 2). After the Launch of Sputnik, Dwight D Eisenhower was accused of slowing down the United States space program, he responded by speeding up the space program and Nasa eventually launched the space satellite Explorer 1, on January 31st …show more content…
Over a long period of time Apollo 11 impacted the U.S economically because the technology that came out of it was able to make a large profit for the United States over time. It wasn't immediately but because of Apollo 11 the United States invented new things and later excelled in technology. The Microchip is used in over 6000 invention today which was brought to us because of Apollo 11, it also gave the U.S large income companies like intel which were impossible before Apollo 11 (Weebly,3) In a sense, this brought United States a way to regain all the money that they spent on the Apollo program. Apollo 11 gave the United States the stepping stones necessary to build it to the economic power it is today. Apollo 11 didn't only have a long lasting effect on the economy, it also had an affect on the study of Space. The exploration of space became a priority for the United States, the U.S worked on different kinds of Satellites, probes and because of Apollo 11 there are now probes on different planets (Nasa, 5) Apollo 11 gave NASA the building blocks for space travel and because of it the United States has launched rovers to mars and probes to all of the planets. Apollo 11 gave the United States the power to launch Voyager 1, Voyager 1 went further than pluto and it gave us a very large understanding of our solar system and inter galactic space. Without the development of Apollo 11,
