In the story there is a fight for leadership between Jack and Ralph. All the boys have to decide if building huts and having a signal fire is more important than hunting and fun, and they have to test their humanity and conscience. All of the boys on the island have a choice to follow down the road to humanity, or turn into savages. They are tempted by the antagonist in the story called the beast. The beast has many different facades used throughout the novel but the two main ones are Jack, and the pig’s head on a stick. All of them will use fear to manipulate them so they can turn into savages. Jack will kill a pig and put its head on a stick sharpened on both ends and will stick it in the ground. This quote is shown at the end of the novel when Ralph realizes that they turned into savages. He starts to sob when he remembers the death of Simon and Piggy, when they gave into the Lord of the Flies, and for the fact that he is now a different boy from when he first woke up on the island. I believe that this quote represents my key message because it talks about the change that all of they boys went through throughout the
