One single person cannot shatter the glass ceiling, it must be a team effort by women to remove it once and for all. Eliminating the stereotype that is placed on women about working is the first step in eliminating the glass ceiling. Men think women work easier jobs, have more flexible hours, and do not have as labor-intensive professions. Generally, the perception that women are working at the bank from nine to five, and every weekend off is seen more common than women working in a factory doing assembly work (Killborn, 1995). They find it uncommon to have women in a blue or white-collar job, working the same amount of hours, and doing the same exact thing. Hence, men discriminate against women when they join a male dominate field. Changing the mindset of a man may not be easy, but it is necessary to help end discrimination in the workforce. Next, women need to be confident in their skill set. People will not notice what you have done unless you bring it to their attention. It is necessary to know how to talk with ease and clarity, this will help someone become more trustworthy and reliable in the work place. Having confidence ties in with communication. Earning higher salaries and positions are not a simple task, but to reach it you have to impress the boss with confidence. After that, the next thing you have to do to break the glass ceiling is keep learning. Women learn as much as ten times faster than most males (Olson, 2012). By going to informational seminars or even going back to school, women can get a high education and earn the higher salary jobs.
