It should provide men’s all needs. It is about the balance between doing well and living well. If people produce, the state can be grow and reach the ‘good’. All of these points led us a very important point: self-sufficiency. It is about the economic nationalism. The state should be self-sufficient for economic and political independences. So, the aim of self-sufficiency is reach to the perfection which is the good life. Therefore, we can say that for Aristotle, self-sufficiency is a requirement for the good life. However, Aristotle’s ideas about self-sufficiency are completely important and true but it is hard for today’s life. For example; we cannot produce our foods while we are studying. So, a person cannot be a self-sufficient person in today’s life because we are in a different time. Before starting to explain it, first of all we must understand the ‘people’. In Aristotle’s mind, there is a hierarchy between people. The example of this hierarchy might be; man-woman, master-slave and Greek-non-Greek. So, according to him there is no equality between people. Of course Aristotle has an explanation for this. He believed that in the coherent association, people should have functions. Starting with slaves, they have no rights and freedom. He splits slavery into two which are; natural slavery and legal slavery. In natural slavery, people have a physical power but not have a capacity to think and use their wisdom. So, their only purpose is to serve their master. Nature gives some people wisdom but not a body power like slaves. These people’s purposes are to develop themselves intellectually and to be a public officer for the common interest. Aristotle believed that natural slaves are exists by nature and they are belong to their master. But of course, they are using for the common good. So, their only purpose is to serve the cleaver one. However, in legal slavery, Aristotle believed that they are no natural slaves but because of the bad luck such as; being taken in war, they becomes a slave. So, it is different than natural slavery.
