Beach’s eyes appeared bloodshot, watery and droopy. From a distance, I could smell the odor of intoxicants from beach as we spoke.
As I started the test I started with the stimulus side to side. I noticed that. I noticed equal tracking in each eye. I noticed a lack of smooth pursuit in each eye. I also observed distinct and sustained Nystagmus at maximum deviation in each eye. I also observed the onset of Nystagmus prior to 45 degrees in each eye. No Vertical Nystagmus was visible in either eye.
Beach exhibited great difficulty in following the directions to only follow the stimulus with her eyes, not by moving her head. I reminded Beach several times and each time she stated she understood. Modified Finger to Nose: In the same location I advised Beach we would now be starting the modified finger to nose test. I clearly explained to Beach the instructions for the test. Beach needed to keep her feet together, arms at her sides with her index finger pointed, and palms facing out. I advised not to start the test until I tell you to do so. I asked Beach if she understood theses instructions. Beach stated, yes. Beach was unable to put her feet together, so I advised Beach to put her feet as close together as she could do.
While going over the instructions I explained to Beach, when I tell you to start, tilt your head back and then close both eyes. Beach explained that was might fall over. I had Beach start this part of the SFST’s by taking her left index finger and touching the tip of her nose, followed by her right index finger to the tip of her nose. I continued this for a total of three
