To have an effective system to govern the entire nation, the United States went through several debates. On November 15, 1777, the Congress of the United States adopted the Articles of Confederations. The document was the first law that governed the United States. Each state remained sovereign and independent under the articles of confederation. The article provided several options and process of solving disputes with the Senate being the final body. Besides, the Congress was also granted the powers to make alliances and treaties, maintenance of the armed forces and the currency. Despite the articles of confederation giving several owners to the Congress, it limited the powers of the central government. The other strength of the Constitution is that it requires that the states respect each other’s Constitution, this helps in the regulation of crime throughout the country.
