This allows for the community to identify whether there is an increase or decrease in specific crimes. There is debate over just how much information should be given to the public. A study undertaken in the UK identifies that performance data can significantly impact on civilians, particularly those who do not have sets opinions of police. This study also recognised that the data given to the police must be relevant to the time period, and with a degree and analyses rather then raw data. The NSW police produce an annual report on their performance and a detailed account of their financial spending.
