A audiologist identifies, assesses and treats a patient's hearing problems. He or she must discuss symptoms with patient, document treatment given to them and evaluate and record patients progress. A audiologist also deals with hearing aids and is required to stay up to date with new technology. Its also important that they counsel patients and families in ways to listen and communicate.

When choosing a career I knew I wanted to go into the healthcare field and audiology appealed to me the most because I feel like I’m making a major difference in someone’s life.

This career field is great if you want to make a difference in people’s lives. You have to be willing and prepared to continue learning even after you have received your degree. Another thing I recommend is get as much work experience in college because it comes in handy in the future.
How do you get patients to open up and talk about their hearing/communication problems?
Like any other type of doctor, it is essential that I develop a good rapport with my patient the moment I meet them. It's important that I show my patient that I care about them and demonstrate that i have the skills needed to help find a solution to their hearing problem.
What assistive hearing device do you see being used more?
The assistive hearing device that I see being used more in my patients are hearing aids. Hearing aids are most likely used by people who have mild to moderate hearing loss on both ears. Even so, it is still very important that as a audiologist I stay up to date with new technology and be aware of improved
