The field trip was conducted in some beaches selected (Sellick beach, Aldingga Beach, Port Noarlungga and Brighton Beach) to present a variety of types of coast, which have variations in the natural processes and human activities occurring along the coastline contribute to the development of different coastal features.
This report describe field observations including the geographic characteristics of the beaches and explain how they are developed by natural processes, including extreme natural events …show more content…
The wave regime at the beach changes seasonally to reshape grains of all kinds and sorts sand from gravel. During winter and storms, waves have temporarily deposited sand bars by erode and transport sand from the beaches to the offshore. The removal of sand during winter exposes a mass of gravel which is typically shaped into three step-like berms. The uppermost berm is influenced by only the most vigorous waves at the highest of tides and is thus a perennial feature of the beach. In summer, low energy waves restore the gently sloping beach face and return sand onshore, where it mantles the underlying …show more content…
Technical Strategies
• Dune vegetation is needed for stabilize the force in the dynamic nature of large sand dunes, such as at Port Noarlunga beach. Community based management for mitigation of costal hazard and climate change could be an effective solution for dune management.
• Larger scale techniques like beach nourishment may have better track records, at least in terms of slowing or delaying beach erosion. Not only did the effort stave off erosion, it helped revitalize the beach neighborhood. Slowing or Stopping Beach Erosion is possible even pricey. However, Funding from numerous sources acquired including Coast Park, private sectors, with in-kind support from community groups and individuals.
• The South Australian bottle refund program can be effective to stop plastic pollution reaching the water. The plastic was having a devastating effect on seabirds. Continuing this program and restricting the regulation to protect the Adelaide’s beach could impact on the long-term
