Abstract: The objective of this experiment was to observe the results of bacterial transformation in various growth conditions and determine how successful the altered organism is after the transformation. The organism used was E. Coli because singular cell organisms can have a new gene more easily inserted than multi-cellular organisms. The gene which was inserted is pGLO that carried the gene encoding GFP and a gene for resistance to the antibiotic ampicillin. The GFP gene, in the pGLO, is a gene that that produces a fluorescent protein, which glows when it is placed under an ultraviolet light. For the gene to be turned on, the sugar arabinose is added. In order to determine how successful the altered organism became, quantitative data in the amount of colonies were …show more content…
From this lab, the bacteria transformation was successful as there was a 3.12% growth when compared to the 0% growth of the bacteria with no alteration. Thus the hypothesis was supported through the use of bacterial transformation.
