The excerpt “The Violin” from the memoir “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom” by Amy Chua shows a mother and her daughter, Lulu, having a strenuous relationship. In “Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mom” the mother takes a softer more patient demeanor when dealing with frustration between her and her daughter. The calmness shown by the mother allows her and her daughter to remain in a good relationship. In “Jing-Mei Woo: Two Kinds” the mother is angry and impatient with her daughter. Lack of understanding and forcefulness directed at her daughter causes them to have problems in their relationship. The two different parenting approaches used by each mother in her own story affects their mother-daughter
