Studies have shown that the Battle of Marathon played a huge part for the revolutionary leaders, and it is shown in the 18th and 19th century literature of the world. Francisco de Miranda, a revolutionary from Latin America, was the first person from Latin America to go over to Marathon two years after the battle had ended. He participated in the French Revolution. Another leader who was influenced by the Battle of Marathon was Robespierre. Robespierre established holidays that were inspired by Greek festivals and the Battle of Marathon. The Greeks had a democracy after the Battle of Marathon that influenced the United States’ democracy and the post - revolutionary France government. All of these governments are ‘governments of the people, by the people, and for the people’, as Abraham Lincoln once said. As it was in the Greek democracy, today in the United States democracy, all legal citizens are allowed the right to vote. Also, people who have extremely different views can compete for political power. Only certain citizens in Greece were allowed some type of political power. The structure of the American democracy is considered liberal, and the democracy of Greece was considered as liberal. In Greece, any citizen could be in charge of a council for a whole twenty -four hours and be ale to rule Attica, a department of Greece where Athens is the capital. The same goes for the United States. If a citizen was born in America and has experience with law, political power, and business in a way, that citizen can become president. The citizen is also eligible to serve in any other state or federal positions, the House of the Representatives, or even the Senate (“The Democratic Experiment”) .
