At the current time engineering problems are getting more complicated and conventional methods have become unable to give the satisfying results that the scientists and engineers desire in solving problems or designs there for a new approach is needed hence, Computational mechanics has become fundamentally important part of computational science and engineering, concerned with the use of computational approaches to characterize, predict and simulate physical events and engineering systems governed by the laws of mechanics as it uses computers and digital systems software to help engineers …show more content…
The numerous characteristic of bridge crane is all the motions are performed at the same time at relative high speed.
1.2 Problem statement
Recent years had shown a pressing need to improve the design of Overhead Traveling Cranes Girders due to its large usage in the manufacturing field. Crane girders are subject to types of loading carry high factor of safety. Design improvement will give competitive edge. Another factor is cost; cost is to be reduced by any means thus inefficient or improper design which will lead to high costs is avoided.
1.3 Objectives To perform failure analysis of traveling crane girder configuration for multiple load cases To optimize girder models for improve strength and reduce cost
1.4 Scope of study
This study going to focus on improving the strength of the girder by applying stiffeners or ribs to the girder which is more economical than increase the cross-section area.
The ribs will be applied to smaller cross-section than the original one. Thus. The material will be calculated by the volume of the …show more content…
Modern cranes sometimes use combustion engines or electrical motors and hydraulic systems to supply a far larger lifting capability than was antecedently doable, though manual cranes are still utilized wherever the supply of power would be uneconomical. Cranes exist in a massive kind of forms every tailored to a selected use. Sizes vary from the littlest jib cranes, used within workshops, to the tallest tower cranes, used for constructing high buildings, and therefore the largest floating cranes, accustomed build oil rigs and salvage sunken ships.
