It might be difficult to see, but human’s sense of fairness is something fundamental as a product of nurture. Human beings are nurtured buy their family traits and social norms through intellectual, cultural, and spiritual beliefs. Mencius said that, “Every child knows enough to love his parents, and when he is grown up he knows enough to respect his elder brothers. The love for one’s parent is really humanity and the respect for one’s elders is really righteousness—all that is necessary is to have these natural feelings applied to all men” (“Assets.aspeninstitute.org”). For example, the Mikaelson siblings became vampires through the immortality spell that was done by their mother in the tenth century to protect their family. Our family plays an important role on our up-bringing because they help us shape our individual characteristic as human beings. Mencius said: “Man’s innate ability is the ability possessed by him that is not acquired through learning. Human species have the ability to learn and process information using logic and emotions. Our inner intuition may not guarantee us a hundred percent, but it sure would help if we based it to our knowledge and experience. “man is born inherently good, but it is society that corrupts him” (“Jean-Jacques Rousseau 322”). Human being is accustomed to the things that we do in the course of growing up. We mostly adapt things from our surroundings than our genetics. Genetics may be an important role of our lives, but each of us have its own way of learning and expressing one’s self. Take Nicklaus Mikaelson for example. He was born with good traits until his step-father physically and mentally abused him. This type of environment of being abused every day is somewhat influenced him from being a sweet and loving child to a child with a raging temper and anger towards his step-father and the people around him. He sees love as a weakness, but he will do anything to protect his
