What they don’t realize is that many herbs contain chemicals that can be very powerful. Such herbs make up approximately ¼ of all prescription drugs (herbal medicine). This means that both allopathic medicine and herbal medicine come with the possibility of producing side effects (herbal medicine). Much like allopathy, scientists are studying the risks of herbal medicine and what doses should be recommended. Strength of the herbs should be taken into account when considering side effects. Potency depends on how the plant is grown, harvested, stored, and how it is prepared. Side effects may be caused by allergies, interactions with other drugs, impurity in the product, misidentification of the plant, as well as wrong dosages. So, both medicines have their risks as well as benefits (herbal medicine). The only difference is that in allopathy, side effects can be caused that are nearly as bad as the original problem
