Title
Strength, courage, honor and bravery are some of the few words that are used to describe a hero. An Anglo Saxon hero is the cornerstone to the definition of a hero. The term Anglo Saxon originates from the Germanic tribes that conquered England. These tribes were warriors. They conquered land and other tribes to become the most powerful. The heroes that the Anglo Saxons created reflected their own lifestyle. The heroes live in tribes, heroes must be courageous, heroes must be strong, and heroes have to be honorable. He now considers Beowulf like a son. Hrothgar also has his own sons from his bloodline. Wealhtheow, Hrothgar’s wife, welcomes Beowulf into the family. She tells Beowulf that she wants the throne to stay in the blood line and hope that he will steal the throne from Hrothgar’s real sons. Beowulf keeps his promise to Wealhtheow and supports Hrothgar’s son when take takes up the throne.
Beowulf is not only loyal to Hrothgar, but also his own king, Heardred. Beowulf brings all of his tangible earning on the journey home. Once he arrives he presents Heardred with all of his treasures. Beowulf could have kept everything for himself. He shows his dedication to the well being of his king.
When Beowulf takes the throne soon has a problem with a dragon. Beowulf wants to kill the dragon and take all the gold the dragon is guarding for is people. A new young warrior named Wiglaf comes to help Beowulf kill the dragon. Wiglaf is the next hero in the hero’s cycle in this poem. Wiglaf can see the Beowulf’s loyalty to his people. Wiglaf in a way learns this loyalty from Beowulf. He stays with Beowulf in his last moments. He also helps Beowulf keep his promise to his people about kill the dragon. Wiglaf could have given the dragon the final blow, but he helps set the dragon up so Beowulf can kill it even though he is dying. This loyalty is found in all of the heroes that are mentioned in the
