The building of the wall gave individuals in West Berlin more rights. President John F. Kennedy wrote a famous speech titled “ I Am a Berliner,” which promised to protect West Berlin's citizens against any aggression. Historians believe the Berlin Wall was built as a sort of “wingman” to build the relationship between the United States and the USSR. The wall also eliminated the possibility of Germany becoming more powerful.
