Bog Iron Brewery is a small brewery located in Norton, Massachusetts. It was established at the end of 2011 by its three owners; Frank, Brian, and Matt. After just over a year of dealing with licensing, inspections, etcetera their first beers began to be delivered to the public. Currently their brewing operations take place in an 8,500 square foot space. They also incorporated a small “full pour” taproom in 2014 that features flights, full pints, growler fills, and bottle sales to customers. Since opening they have managed their growth in a restrained and consistent manner without the help of investors or taking on debt. They are looking to establish themselves in a larger space as they have currently outgrown their current footprint. They currently brew over 25 styles of beer both conventional styles as well as their own concoctions. I was able to visit this brewery recently and view their operation as well as sample their products and I was very impressed. In this analysis I will discuss the efficiency and effectiveness of their production layout, customer convenience issues, and any safety, environmental, or ergonomic issues related to their layout.

The brewery utilizes some large pieces of equipment that are at times filled with hundreds or thousands of gallons of very hot contents. In order to limit any safety hazards or injuries related to the repetitive motion tasks that need to be completed Bog Iron now utilizes a significantly automated production system. As you can see from the picture at the end of this analysis the automated system works to complete tasks and monitor the process during multiple stages of production. This allows for minimal staff to be on hand during the production process reducing the chances of mistakes, mishaps, or any kinds of unforeseen
