The Bible is clear that Christians should obey local laws: “Everyone must submit to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist are instituted by God.” (Romans 13:1) This biblical principle is present in my work in human resources, since America and its individual states have laws in place governing certain aspects of the employee-employer relationship. The Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and anti-discrimination laws are examples of such laws on which I train managers in our company. As a Christian, I see this as part of the way I can be a faithful steward of God’s creation. Unfortunately, some people see employment laws as a hindrance to the business, but the Christian worldview allows me to see the benefits instead.
