Anubis is the name given to the Egyptian God, Ienpw. He was mainly known as the Lord of the Dead until Osiris came and took his place. He is often known as having a jackal or wild dog head however the actual creature he is represented by is unknown. There are even legends that suggest he is represented by a sort of hybrid between jackals and wild dogs. The color and type of animal represents his involvement in funerary activities. Anubis took Osiris’ role of the person that holds the scales while the weighing of hearts against Ma’at’s feather. Anubis’ genealogy is a mystery. Many myths and legends say different things as to who Anubis’ parents may be; however, none of them say who his parents definitely are. Worship for Anubis was centered in Cynopolis.
