Some solutions to BED are medicine, counseling and therapy, and family support (Ambrose and Deisler). Medication is normally an effective part of eating disorder treatment, and is a common solution for recovery (Smith). Since depression is closely related to the disorder, doctors may give anti-depressants to binge eaters to help them recover (Smith). Agreeing with Smith, UW Health also states that taking medicine is a possible solution for binge eating that could help someone recover. In addition, there are non-medical ways to overcome an eating disorder. Some binge eaters go to cognitive behavioral therapy. In this therapy, people learn ways to stop binge eating, and to “maintain a healthy body weight” (World Book Student). Aside from cognitive therapy, there are many different types of therapy for people to turn to. They include, individual therapy, family therapy, and group therapy. In the beginning of recovery, it is important to talk to friends and family and discuss the issues that one may be facing with their disorder.
