John Ellis decided to develop a type of oil or lubricant that an engine could run on at very high temperatures without damaging either part of the engine or the entirety. The oil then became known as “Valvoline Oil”. Upon completion, in 1920, it would be used in the Model-T cars and was suggested that they use only Valvoline Oil. From the late 1930’s through the mid 1940’s, Valvoline develops additional oils that were of higher grade, longer lasting, and with the thinking it was good enough for our personal vehicles, the Army began using Valvoline oil’s in their vehicles.
